At last!! I also get to write a blog…. This has been brewing in me forever, and truth be told, I owe it to our Lifechanging-holiday travellers to share our Lifechanging-holiday experiences, so the time just simply had to be made! You see, Lifechanging-holidays like to think we are a bit different to your average travel-agency. We don’t just ‘go the extra mile’ it’s more like we ‘invented the extra mile!’ …We like to travel, as a couple or family and try as many places as we can so we can find the best of the best that suites your needs best! We like to think that we are ‘pro’s’ in finding what tickle’s your fancy, and give you exactly that! So in short, we go the extra mile, so you don’t have to, to find the perfect spot for you!!
The first place of many that I would like to tell you about was one of my favourite experiences. Living in a busy city, it is always refreshing to go out in the country side, but this weekend was particularly fun as we just happen to ‘bump’ into the Olive Festival in Riebeeck Kasteel on our way out to the very exclusive Bartholomeus Klip situated in the Riebeek valley. Besides for the breathtaking surroundings, the Olive Festival was vibrant and upbeat with loads of fun things to do and see. This was in hind sight definitely a great weekend to go to Bartholomeus Klip which is only a few km’s away from Riebeek Kasteel and definitely worth while to plan around this festival.
We were well received in the beautifully furnished farmhouse. Finishes inside are luxurious, with clean white cotton bedding and stylish fabrics. We were booked into a Agapanthus room, nearest the swimming pool. This en-suite bathroom is in a Victorian-style, the bath has an overhead shower. The toiletries is unique to Bartholomeus Klip, scented from their surrounding fynbos and of the highest standard!
We were impressed with the Orchid Suite that has a king-sized bed, en-suite bathroom with similar a Victorian-style bath and basin as in the main house, a good sized walk-in shower and separate toilet. A separate suite leads straight to the greatest charm!! The secluded verandah, making you feel part of the veld and overlooking the mountains. This Suite, we will definitely book for our Honeymooners. It is secluded from the farm house and you have a feeling of being totally separate but still have the luxuries of the use of the heavenly dining experience inside the main house. We loved this!
But my favourite part of the accommodation was definitely the Wild Olive House and Cottage. We went as a couple, and felt very spoiled and really loved our time away from our busy toddler, but if I had to visit Bartholomeus Klip again it will definitely be as a family in the Wild Olive House accommodation. Inside Wild Olive House is an airy open-plan sitting room, dining room and fully equipped kitchen, with two beautiful double bedrooms, a smaller single bedroom (bunk beds can be supplied if needed), and two bathrooms. An outside stoep and swimming pool for the cottage and house use exclusively was really gives it the feel of a holiday home.
If your family is slightly bigger, you can also book the self-contained Wild Olive Cottage that has a double bedroom, bathroom with shower and a private sitting room and terrace which looks out over the reserve and up to the mountains.
Now the part that absolutely grabbed my full attention was, if you are booked in the self-contained Wild Olive House, you have the option available to eat at the main farmhouse, while meals, as well as babysitters, can be provided for the children! I was sold!! This was – in my opinion – the best way to spend a family holiday. There are all the luxuries and stylish elegance in the house to feel really spoiled and at the same time totally at home and comfortable away from the main house. (So if your children or family is anything like my boisterous lot, it won’t bother anybody if they are laud and enjoying the swimming pool to the fullest). Mommy and Daddy can take a rest from their daily duties of cooking and still enjoy a taste of heaven in the main house restaurant! With baby sitters for the kids! This to me was an incredible well thought through plan for the perfect family holiday.
And this is not even to mention all the activities to keep the kids and grown-ups entertained! The right balance of enough activities is another ingredient making up the perfect holiday! There are many unaccompanied activities that can be enjoyed such as swimming, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and twice daily accompanied fun activities such as nature drives through the reserve, where there is always something different to discover. The guides are very knowledgeable.
Attention to detail was really noticed and appreciated at Bartholomeus Klip. There where gum boots and warm wear for hiking, game drives and various gear available for all the activities, available in different sizes. This type of attention to detail really gives Bartholomeus Klip a very high rating on our Lifechanging-holidays scale. This is what makes your stay just that bit more enjoyable!
But I haven’t even began to touch the – very dreamy –part of our experience….the food….oh the glorious, glorious food!!
All the inclusive rates includes accommodation, all meals such as a very delicious afternoon tea, snacks and sundowners, a superb four-course dinner, early morning coffee and pastries, and a generous mid-morning brunch.
Bartholomeus Klip is famous for its fabolous food, (which I cannot recommend highly enough) it is genuinely imaginative and mostly made from a variety of local produce. The conservatory, where the meals are served, allows in the morning sunshine at breakfast time, and is incredible romantic at night in the soft candlelight for diners.
Above all the service was very personal and nothing seem too much to ask!!
We will gladly book you a stay at Bartholomeus Klip with the fullest of confidence! It was definitely a wonderful and Lifechanging- experience!
